Meet Carlos Samuels: Middle & High School Math Tutor.
As an educator, my journey began with a drive to create meaningful opportunities for students, shaped by my own experiences transitioning from the Caribbean to the United States. My passion for mathematics and education led me to pursue advanced math studies at some of the nation’s top universities. I completed post-baccalaureate studies in math and statistics at Washington University in St. Louis and earned a Master’s degree in Biostatistics from New York University. These experiences not only deepened my expertise in mathematics but also reinforced my commitment to using education as a tool for empowerment.
While at Medgar Evers College, I founded the math club to provide a space where students could connect, grow, and succeed academically. This work solidified my dedication to bridging educational gaps and supporting underrepresented students. Today, I am a high school math teacher in Washington, DC, where I continue to bring this mission to life.
My purpose is to empower students to recognize their potential and achieve their goals, whether in high school classrooms or adult learning environments. In my teaching and tutoring practice, I strive to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment where students feel valued and understood. My instructional style emphasizes active learning and problem-solving, tailored to meet the diverse needs of my students. I am passionate about making math accessible and relevant, demystifying complex concepts, and fostering curiosity. Above all, I aim to build confidence and cultivate a growth mindset in my students, ensuring they leave every session feeling capable and motivated to tackle new challenges.
