Adria Retter

I grew up in Pennsylvania and earned my bachelor’s degree in Math and Computer Science from Swarthmore College. While at Swarthmore, I was the national champion in discus and a member of the track and field team. I have since earned my master’s in Software Engineering at Villanova University and currently work as a software developer for the Washington Nationals.

I first started tutoring in college as a writing tutor and private math tutor, and my interest in education was sparked by my coursework in educational studies. I love working with students, helping them build confidence, and showing them that learning can be exciting and empowering. I’ve been tutoring for four years and continue to find joy in helping students grow.

My tutoring style is rooted in active learning and critical thinking. I focus on helping students truly engage with material in a way that sparks curiosity and builds understanding. I strive to create an environment where students feel supported and motivated, encouraging them to take ownership of their learning while providing the tools to succeed. I break down complex topics into manageable steps and ask guiding questions to help students discover solutions on their own. My goal is always to ensure students leave each session feeling more confident in their abilities.
