Meet Chelsea Cherenfant: Senior SAT, ACT, & STEM Tutor.
As a Harvard graduate, I have a long-standing passion for learning and academic achievement. As a tutor, I derive great joy from sharing this passion for education and knowledge with others. This love of learning spans multiple subjects, but I’m especially passionate about studying Romance languages (I have formally studied Latin, French, and Portuguese, and I did an independent study involving Italian in high school), finding ways to build interdisciplinary bridges between subjects, and understanding how to better communicate and connect with people at the individual, community, and societal levels. I majored in biology and minored in global health in undergrad. I spent most of my professional career thus far working in labs at biotech companies, but in 2021, I decided to pursue that interest by starting an online MPH program with George Washington University. Over time, I’ve found that public health allows me to engage in a lot of the areas I’m passionate about in meaningful ways.
I started tutoring the SAT and ACT more seriously while in graduate school, but I spent several years tutoring elementary school students in Boston’s Mission Hill neighborhood. Then and now, I have loved how tutoring has pushed me to find ways to communicate effectively with students, remain sharp in my quantitative skills, and draw from my past experiences to help a student understand a concept and define their own approaches to problem solving. My background in scientific research combined with my experience working with kindergarten and first-grade students has trained me to break down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps. I use a warm, encouraging teaching style to help students feel supported as they tackle new challenges, and I do my best to make learning more meaningful and memorable by connecting academic material to real-world applications. I firmly believe that every student can thrive with the right support and a personalized approach, so it’s important to me to take time to understand each student’s learning style, goals, and challenges through conversation with both parents and students. Setting that initial foundation allows me to create customized plans that build skills step-by-step and celebrate progress along the way. Additionally, it helps establish trust across all parties involved. Together, these approaches help me guide students not only toward higher grades and test scores, but toward curiosity, resilience, and lifelong learning.
