SAT, ACT, Math, College Essay, & English Tutor
Meet Isabella DeCarlo:
Duke Grad | Test Prep, English, & Math Expert.
I have been passionate about education for as long as I can remember, and I love to help students meet their academic and personal goals. I grew up and attended high school on Long Island, NY, before moving to North Carolina to study at Duke University. I began tutoring in high school and continued cultivating my love for education at Duke, where I completed the Secondary Teacher Preparation Program to receive an English Language Arts teaching license. Now, in addition to tutoring, I work in student affairs at the University of Maryland.
My approach to tutoring focuses on centering instruction around the student and their skills, needs, and goals. It is important for me to make meaningful connections with students to better understand their situation and personal goals and use this information to inform instruction. In my experience, students learn best when they feel respected, valued, and involved with the content, so creating a relationship based on these ideals is very important to my tutoring practice. Another critical aspect of my tutoring approach involves communicating and teaching ideas in multiple formats/styles to ensure that students have a deep understanding of the material.
