Jake Parsky

A lifelong musician and science enthusiast, I bring more than a decade of teaching experience to my work with students. I earned my B.A. in Music with a minor in Literature from Macalester College and have pursued further studies in Physics at the University of Maryland and Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University. My tutoring experience spans a wide range of subjects and grade levels, from elementary math and SAT preparation to college-level physics, chemistry, and calculus. I have also taught 6th-grade math and science full-time through AmeriCorps. What I enjoy most about teaching is helping students experience that moment when a challenging concept finally clicks.

Having worked with learners of all ages and backgrounds, from elementary school students to pre-med students and adult learners with developmental disabilities, I understand that every student learns differently.That’s why I ask a lot of questions, have students reason out loud, and connect new ideas to what they already understand instead of handing them formulas to memorize. I want students to feel comfortable saying “I don’t get it yet” and confident that we’ll figure it out together. My goal is for every student to leave with better grades and scores, along with the problem-solving habits and confidence to take on new material on their own.
