Meet Katie Peter: AP US History Tutor.
I am a historian and museum professional who has been tutoring since 2019. Originally from Buffalo, NY, I fell in love with history at an early age. I earned BAs in History and American Studies from SUNY Geneseo in upstate New York. I then moved to DC and graduated with my Master’s in Public History from American University in 2023. I have worked for several local historical institutions, and currently work as a staff genealogist for the Daughters of the American Revolution.
As a tutor, it is my goal for students to feel confident and proud of their work. I believe in the value of practice and repetition, but also that the most effective learning happens when a student goes beyond just rote memorization. Once a student can understand and explain broader concepts and use their critical thinking skills, the minutiae seems to fall into place. Moreover, I believe that making mistakes is how you learn, and students should not be afraid to ask questions. I want students to be confident in their own ability to succeed.
