Meet Katie Tsang: Middle & High School Math Tutor.
As a graduate of Duke University and an experienced classroom math teacher (with teaching experience in Beijing, China; San Jose, California; and Washington, DC), I am passionate about collaborating with my students to foster curiosity and a genuine love for learning.
In my role as a tutor, I strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions and explore new ideas. I make it a priority to build on my students’ existing knowledge, using thoughtful questioning and personalized strategies to help new concepts “stick.” I firmly believe that students learn best by doing—by actively engaging with mathematics in ways that feel meaningful and relevant to their lives, whether by connecting lessons to their current interests or encouraging them to discover new passions.
What makes teaching truly rewarding for me is witnessing those “lightbulb moments” when a student gains clarity and confidence, and especially when they develop the intrinsic motivation to learn and practice—not because they have to, but because they genuinely want to. Helping students cultivate that sense of ownership and joy in their learning journey is at the heart of everything I do.
