Kristi Farina

I am a lifelong educator from Western Massachusetts. Education has been a calling for me for as long as I can remember, and when I was introduced to Algebra in middle school, I knew it was what I was meant to do. I went on to earn my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education and a Master’s in Education & Creative Learning. Sharing my love and excitement for mathematics and connecting with young people has kept me energized in this work for 34 years. Most recently, I worked as a high school administrator, supporting new educators in building the same passion and success for students.

As a tutor, I adhere to three tenets for meaningful and productive work. First and foremost, I focus on building a strong relationship with the student. I have found that a solid relationship is the key to successful outcomes. This means getting to know the student—their learning style, strengths, and weaknesses—and ensuring they understand that my goal is to support their success. We will always build from the student’s questions, deepening their knowledge and understanding. Next, I work from a strengths perspective, leveraging what the student already knows and can do, and building from there. We will operate from a growth mindset, where the combination of coaching, practice, and repetition leads to the desired results. Finally, my background in teaching all levels of mathematics, from Algebra through BC Calculus, along with my experience in reading for the AP exam and preparing thousands of students for standardized tests, allows me to provide targeted and specific instruction geared toward preparing the student effectively.
