Lily Gu

A native Virginian, I grew up in Northern Virginia and spent K-12 in Northern Virginia’s public schools. Teaching has always been a passion of mine. Starting in kindergarten up until I graduated college, I knew I always wanted to teach others. Since graduating, I have started tutoring students of all ages!

My standardized test journey starting many years ago when I first took the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology admissions exam my 8th grade year.  Juggling AP classes and Thomas Jefferson’s extracurriculars with the college admissions process game me perspective and understanding on the challenges and opportunities faced by high school students in the DMV. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson, I went on to attend and graduate from the College of William & Mary in 2018.

As a tutor, I tailor my approach to meet the students where they are, aligning with their thought processes and problem-solving styles. I strive to connect with their motivations for learning and improving, and to find ways to center those goals or drives during our sessions. My preferred approach is to foster an environment where students feel comfortable experimenting and exploring without being afraid to make mistakes.
