Meet Cat Hyman: Middle & High School Math Tutor.
Originally from New York City/New Jersey, I graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Public Communication. Upon graduating, I joined Teach for America in Miami-Dade as a High School Geometry Teacher. I later moved on to a Collegiate Prep High School in the San Francisco Bay Area with KIPP Public Schools. During my time at KIPP, I was the Lead Teacher, Curriculum Developer, and Math Department Chair for several years, gaining classroom experience with many levels of High School Math, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Applied Math, and AP Calculus. While working at KIPP, I earned my Masters in Education, focused on equitable support and representation in Math classrooms. In my 12th year of teaching, I teach high school math at Alexandria City High School.
Throughout my decade-plus in education, I have regularly grounded my teaching in data-driven and informed instruction, scaffolding any and all work as needed to bring students to higher levels of Math proficiency. I also strive to make the learning environment and process joyful and as comfortable for students as possible while ensuring all students see greater Mathematical success.
